How to Leash Train Your Puppy

Updated: 4 days ago

Leash training is an essential skill for puppies, ensuring safe and enjoyable walks. Start by introducing your puppy to the collar or harness, allowing them to wear it indoors to get comfortable. Once they’re at ease, attach a lightweight leash and let them drag it around under supervision.

Next, practice walking indoors or in a secure yard. Use treats or toys to encourage your puppy to follow you. Keep sessions short and positive, rewarding them for staying near you without pulling.

If your puppy pulls, stop walking and wait for them to return to your side before moving again. (As Huskies are known to pull, this takes some time and work.) Avoid yanking the leash, as this can create fear or resistance. Patience and consistency are key.

Over time, gradually increase distractions and practice in different environments. If you have another dog, walking your puppy together. No Cockapoo or Husky likes to be left behind, even as a puppy. With dedication, your puppy will learn to walk politely on a leash, making every outing a joyful experience!
